Troubleshooting MailChimp 'Invalid Resource' error when subscribing users from Zoom

  • Trigger: User registers for a webinar on Zoom
  • Action 1: Subscribe user to List #1 on MailChimp
  • Action 2: Subscribe user to List #2 on MailChimp

Most of the zap runs have worked fine. But for one zap run, we got this error message on Action 2:

“Mailchimp ran into an error: Invalid Resource - The resource submitted could not be validated. For field-specific details, see the 'errors' array. ip_signup: This value is not a valid IP. Valid IPs have a format of W.X.Y.Z where each letter represents a...”

The outgoing data doesn’t include any IP information. Also, MailChimp was accepted Action 1. Any idea what could be going on?

Hi @postcarbon

First clarify which exact Mailchimp action is being used for Zap step 2.

Official options: https://zapier.com/apps/mailchimp/integrations#triggers-and-actions

For us to have more context about the error, post screenshots showing:

  • how the Zap step is configured in the CONFIGURE tab while in EDIT mode with the field mappings visible
  • the DATA IN for Zap step 2 in the Zap Run that had the error

In the Zap Run with the error, check the LOGS tab in Zap step 2 to see the underlying API request/response for the raw data used.

Hi @postcarbon 👋

Is the Zap using a Add/Update Subscriber or Add Subscriber to Tag action event for actions 1 and 2, or is it using an API Request action event? Wondering if it might be a API Request one since the other actions don't seem to have any IP address fields to select values for. 🤔

And if you can share a screenshot of the setup for both actions (use a tool like Zappy to remove any personal/sensitive info before sharing here), that'll help us compare the two and see why action 2 might be erroring even though no IP details are being passed through.
