Triggering a Zap from a dropdown list in Google Sheets

Forum|alt.badge.img

Hi Zapier Community,

The context is that I have a dropdown list with 2 options that can be chosen from a dropdown list “Not Done”, “Done”. This is a list of projects that i have on hand which i would like to transfer the information to ClickUp.

The idea here is that i would like the zap to trigger on a specific column that had its status change from “Not Done” to “Done” and trigger that rows project information to ClickUp.

My current zap uses the “New or Updated Spreedsheet Row” Trigger, only to continue if Status = “Done”.

The problem is that im not able to get the zap to trigger using this method. I have been trying to find out what are the different ways to properly trigger a zap but im currently not able to find one. Is there any documentation/examples on this?

And how do i implement a solution/workaround to make this work for me?
Thank you

Thanks both @Troy Tessalone @shane.massey

I’ve managed to do it using the other trigger option “New or Updated Sheets in Team Drive”
Seems to be a viable option given my current structure

Hi @Laksa

Issue could be related to how your GSheet is configured.

Post screenshots showing the top 3 rows of your GSheet.

Here’s an alternative, use Zapier Tables or Airtable instead of GSheets.

Those apps have better controls for triggering automations based on column conditions.

Hi Troy, thank you for your response. This is how the google sheets look like and I am using the last column on the right “Status” and toggling it between “Not Done” and “Done”.

Most of my records are on google sheet and moving to another app would not be possible at the moment unfortunately, thank you for the suggestion. Ultimately, we would have to resort to manual input of the data should it not be possible at the moment.

@Laksa

NOTE: Using Zapier Tables in Zap steps count as 0 Tasks in Zap Runs.

From the screenshot we can’t see the row numbers or the column letters in the GSheet.

@Laksa

This is easily done with GoogleSheets, no workarounds required. Although there is some cool simple stuff once we sort this out for you. I set up the same zap (working) in 5 minutes, inculing 3 minutes to make the Googlesheet.

I would say you just have a technical problem here.

Can you confirm if the zap is not triggering, ie starting? or is it your filter not responding correctly to the data you receive?

I did notice you used the term Status = Done. For Strings you will want to use

Status, Exactly Matches, Done

Also note, Zapier can take up to 2 minutes to respond to the trigger even though it is “instant”.

That’s great news, @Laksa! 🎉

Thanks so much for following up here to let us know that switching to the team drive version of the New or Updated Spreadsheet Row trigger did the trick. And thank you to @Troy Tessalone and @shane.massey as well for helping out here! 🤗

Sounds like you might be all set for now but please do get back in touch if you need any further help at all. Until then, happy Zapping! ⚡
