Hi everyone,

I am just a bit confused on how the New email trigger works, I hope someone can help me

So my goal here is to create a response to my emails on the folder called OpenAI

I configured the trigger as New Email → Label OpenAI

in theory it should monitor all new emails with OpenAI
Below is the config of my zap:

Step 2 checks for the email html body if it is a new email entirely / an ongoing conversation and outputs a value of true or false, depending on that value it will go to 2 paths

Now, my problem is if I get a new email → label it as OpenAI then it correctly triggers

but if let us say after 5 mins I send out a reply on that existing labeled email this cannot find it and trigger the correct path.

I hope anyone can help me.

Thank you!

There are differences in the triggers between new email and new labelled email. However, they only check gmail at intervals depending on your plan. I see yours is every 2 minutes.

There is also an option to trigger when a new thread starts. I am not sure if there is a difference between a new email and a new thread as your replies, I think would be threads.

Hopefully, someone will know and can tell us.

Hi @Ethernalz918

You may want to try using this Zap trigger: Gmail - New Email Matching Search

Hi @JammerS , @Troy Tessalone , @Badger

Thanks for all your responses and greatly appreciate them.

The recommendations for Using the triggers:
New Email Matching Search → It does as it is intended but when a reply comes in it is the same error of no emails found

New Threads → it works as trigger but not when a reply comes in
Thank you!

So I had found a workaround, It now triggers as long as I move the actual message from inbox to the label called OpenAI
But, it now created a new problem. It now creates 2 draft responses. 1 sent to me as a reply to me and 2 sent to the sender with the message addressed to the sender.

@Ethernalz918

All of the Gmail Zap triggers are scheduled meaning those can take from 1-15 minutes to fire depending on your Zapier plan.

Check your Zap Runs history details for activity to help you troubleshoot: https://zapier.com/app/history/

Perhaps try using this Zap trigger: Gmail - New Labeled Email

NOTE: You may need to add a Filter to make sure the found email is in your inbox indicating inbound emails (not outbound sent emails).

Yep, but there is a button to force run this zap instead of waiting 2 mins. I did try that and it works now but it created a new problem

@Ethernalz918

Within the Zap Editor there is a RUN] button at the top right to run a Zap on demand.

Yes, I use this to check if everything is running correctly, It does run correctly but now it creates 2 drafts :D
