"subscriber email is missing" error Sheets+Mailchimp

Hi, this is the first time I am unable to get a Sheet’s row to pull over to Mailchimp, so I’m stumped at what is wrong.

I have a Google Sheet connected to a Form and am collecting registrant first name, last name, and email address. I am using a Zap to send over these 3 fields to Mailchimp. I’m on the free version of MC, if that matters.

The test zap works fine.

But when I tested it by adding a new registrant, I get the error that “Required field "Subscriber Email" (email) is missing.”

It says my column D (where I have the email address) is missing data. (But I look at the spreadsheet and the emails are all there. Plus, the test zap had worked fine so the mapping should have worked (?)

In case it matters, I did have to update the Form once and the column for email addresses changed (so the original email column became a column E that doesn’t get used. I changed the name of that column to be different so it didn’t have the same column header as the primary email column in column D now.

Any ideas of why, despite my mapping to the field I know I need for email and the testing working out ok, that I’m getting this error?

Many thanks!

Hi @EVK

Check the Zap Run history details to see the DATA IN/OUT for each step to help you trace and troubleshoot: https://zapier.com/app/history/

Check the ROW that was returned in the DATA OUT from Zap step 1.

Try testing your Zap trigger step again and remap the variables between steps.

Thank you! I did see that the Data Out from step 1 for the errored ones did have empty fields. But in today’s run, before I could make adjustments, there were no errors anymore. I suspect perhaps I had an empty row that was causing the issue and it was able to move past that row when I received additional registrants.

@EVK

Best practice is to add a Filter step with conditions that check for valid values that are required by following Zap actions steps.
