I’m trying to send a message to slack and then capture the permalink in an airtable record, but the message permalink is sending me to a “the requested file cannot be found”

Hi @head_adrian

Are you trying to track “file_upload” message types as shown in your screenshot?
The file may have been deleted in Slack.

Thanks @Troy Tessalone !

The message does have a file attached, but it also has normal message text - I agree that the url looks like its for the file and not the message but I’m not sure what to do about it!

@head_adrian

Make sure a Filter step or a Path Filter condition is used to exclude those with Message Type = file_upload

I’ll check that out!

But also, @Troy Tessalone – If i’m sending the following message in slack as the step before airtable, then why would it be registering as a file_upload at all?

To be clear, I am adding a file as an attachment (see below), but why would it only show me the file upload URLs instead of the links for the original message. Is this just a bug?

@head_adrian

You can try testing without a file attachment to see if you get a different response behavior.

Some Zap steps are actually a combo of underlying API requests.

e.g. Send message + attach file to message

In your case, it may be returning the last API request response.

You may need to send a message, then send another message as a thread reply to include the file, and adjust your Zap steps accordingly.

Yes that seems to be exactly what is going on @Troy Tessalone  – seems like this is mis from a documentation perspective for the teams at Zapier or Airtable!

ty!

That’s great news @head_adrian! A huge thanks to Troy for pointing you in the right direction!
