Reconnecting Reddit account in Zapier fails despite successful attempts
I created web app in Reddit and successfully created connection in zappier. But when I try to create zap it tells me that connection is already expired and I must reconnect account.
Well, I can reconnect as many times I want. Reconnection is succesfull, but in zap it still keeps telling me that connection is expired. But when I press to test connection in connection manager it gives me an error, saying that test can’t be completed.
I’m quite confused because web app ID and secret are correct and connection is created.

Hi all, just wanted to flag that I’ve been experiencing this too. Is this just a bug or an intentional limitation with Reddit’s API?
@SamB can you please add me to the list of affected users too? Thanks!
Sure thing @DennisWF! 🙂 I’ve added you to the bug report that we’re using to track folks affected by this so you’ll be notified once it’s resolved.
Reddit still seems to be flagging some accounts for commercial use of their API, but it’s still unclear as to whether that’s due to a bug with the Reddit app integration itself, use limitations for Reddit’s API or if it has more to do with the accounts that are attempting to use Reddit’s API via Zapier. I did wonder if that perhaps the connected Reddit account’s age and Karma might have something to do with it, but I couldn’t confirm that’s the case for certain.
Hey @SamB In case it could be an issue with the way the integration is written, do you know if the duration parameter is being set to “permanent” currently? I think if this parameter isn’t explicitly set as in the example below, the token automatically expires every hour. Source: https://next-auth.js.org/providers/reddit?utm_source=chatgpt.com
Thanks for sharing this info @DennisWF. I don’t have access to see exactly how it’s being set currently, but I’ll share this info with the team in case it helps. 🤗
Hi, I'm currently in the trial period with Zapier and I'm experiencing the same issue. However, I don’t encounter this problem when using the same web app with Make, like many other users.
Are you planning to resolve this bug soon? I see that people have been waiting for months. Otherwise, we may consider other alternatives tools.
Hey @SamB, any updates from the team on this? I have an amazing new workflow I can’t wait to show off, but I can’t actually use it yet because my connection keeps expiring 😂

@DennisWF I have the same 😅
@andgiord me right now, just waiting:
Hi there @andgiord and @DennisWF 👋
No updates at the moment but I can confirm that duration: "permanent" is already being used.
We’re continuing to investigate the issue @andgiord, and while I can’t give an estimate for when it will be sorted, you’ll definitely be notified once the bug report is marked as resolved.
Really appreciate everyone’s patience on this, I know this has been an ongoing issue for quite some time. If I receive any updates or find any potential workarounds in the meantime, I’ll be sure to share them here.
Potential workaround: I suspect what’s getting our accounts flagged is the frequent polling of the Reddit triggers. So instead of using that, I just realised that Reddit provides RSS feeds of hot or rising posts in any sub-reddit, and I’m using that with the RSS by Zapier app as my trigger. This avoids polling, and also offers the added convenience of a single trigger for as many sub-reddits as I want to monitor.
Ugh, I spoke too soon. The integration timed me out again, even though I have no Reddit triggers running.
Love the creative thinking here, @DennisWF! 🙌 Sorry it’s still erroring, but really appreciate you trying to help and share potential workarounds.
There aren’t any updates to share at the moment, but I’ll keep you all posted!

Hey, I’m experience this issue aswell, after a few runs my authentication disconnects and using the same client_id / secret seems to work but doesn’t connect on Zap side. I’m willing to test out any potential fixes once they come around, please add me to that list.
The weird thing now is that my expired connection seems to randomly reconnect if I wait long enough. It just sort of alternates between being expired and being valid, which is really odd.

Oh interesting, thanks for letting me know, I’ll see if mine does the same today. I just set things up and immediately starting having this issue.

Seems mine has failed every hour since my last comment, (my reddit account is relatively new). However, the 500 response is decent indicator that this is an unaddressed issue from reddit’s end.
I know Reddit’s notorious for shadow banning perhaps this is some annoying form of “rate limiting” while they workout this feature, was it ever working consistently?
@TSCFlames yeah, I think the working theory as per @SamB’s earlier comments is that Reddit is mistakenly flagging many of our accounts as being (mis)used for commercial purposes. Other users have reported that this doesn’t happen with Reddit’s integration on other automation platforms, which I haven’t tried, so I don’t know if there’s something different about Zapier’s implementation that makes it more likely that our accounts get flagged.
Sorry to hear you’re being affected by this as well @TSCFlames. Not got any updates available to share at this time but I’ve added you to the list so you’ll definitely be notified once it’s sorted.
Hi @SamB can you add me to the list of folks impacted by this bug as well? I want to make sure I get the alert when it's fixed.
Of course, @iiooiiooiiooiiooii! I’ve added you to the list, so you’ll be sure to get the notification from us.
Can you add me to the list as well? The whole reason I actually bought Zapier was for Reddit.
