Reconnecting Reddit account in Zapier fails despite successful attempts

Facing same issue

I noticed that  Reddit connections  work  and Reddit tasks actually execute  for about 1 to 2 hours after midnight PST. In that time frame Reddit accounts doesnt show expired. So, I’ts not an issue on  our - user side.

In that short time frame  you can create  any new zaps or edit existing ones. So, I guess problem is on  Zappier side or they are hiting some kind of Reddit API limit.

Would love if Zappier would look into this and address this issue.

My connection expired last week, and yesterday I reconnected it. It worked briefly, but has already expired again. Here’s what comes back when I go to Test Connection:
 

Good to know it’s not just me. I thought my WebAppId/secret was wrong some how (I did notice copy/pasting from reddit did include a trailing space, but that was caught and removed)

So, I’m in contact with Zapier support, they say  and showed me logs with Reddit responding with 403 error while credentials are correct as  I described earlier.

Z-Support  told me to contact Reddit support regarding any limits I could possibly hit. Well, I hope  they received my request I submitted.

Have you also contacted Zappier and/or Reddit support and your requests are getting 403 error?

Same issue here. And this error message shown in Zapier:
 

… looks like their API call is receiving HTML back (possibly a 500 that wasn’t properly returned as JSON). So the problem might be on the Reddit side, unless there is some proxy involved with this Reddit app connection.

Zapier, we’re your customers. Please take the lead in figuring this out. Don’t send us to Reddit.

Is it still broken for others? Honestly, I only use zapier for it’s reddit integration so I’ll be reaching out to customer service about cancelling my annual membership and downgrading to the free tier. This happened a while a back and the reddit integration was broken for a few months so.. I won’t be sitting around for them to fix it

Still having this same issue - zap ran once successfully and then in trying to edit the steps am running into this issue. Every time I reconnect to Reddit it’s successful for a few moments and then instantly goes back to ‘connection expired’ -- following for any updates on a fix

So sorry you’re all running into issues your your Reddit account connections expiring. I did some digging and found a bug report for this issue which was recently closed. It seems that the Reddit app now requires you setup your own OAuth app in order to connect to Zapier and that’s why the connections are expiring:

Can you all try setting up an app directly in Reddit, then add a brand new Reddit connection for your Zaps that uses the Client ID and Client Secret for the app you just created?

​@SamB - I think that’s what a few of us have tried already. We had previously done that to fix the other issue that was happening a few months ago, and that fix stuck for a while, but then the connections stopped working.

I’ve deleted and reconfigured the Reddit app multiple times, including today, and each time it works for a short time (meaning once or twice) and then breaks again within the same day. When it breaks, the Zap stops working and when you go to “Test connection,” it shows the screenshot with the Reddit is expired error.

+1 to Dave D. Creating a new connection fixed the problem a few months ago, but when I tried creating a new connection, the issue still persisted.

Same issue as ​@yatzooa and ​@Dave D. I’d followed instructions as well from the Zapier support team, below. I got it to work again once, but the zap only ran successfully one time before the same reconnection issue is happening again and now won’t work at all

This kind of reconnect → expired loop is usually tied to how Reddit handles OAuth tokens and session management. Since you mentioned it worked once and then started failing, it suggests something in the authentication handshake isn’t sticking.
 
A few things to try right away:

• Disconnect any existing Reddit connections in your My Apps page.
• Log out of Reddit in your browser.
• Open a private/incognito window and reconnect Reddit to Zapier, making sure to grant all requested permissions during the consent screen.
• If you’re using browser extensions, try disabling them for the reconnect, as some can interfere with OAuth.

Same issue here. Reconnected without success. 

Also got this issue. It’s wild how the competitors to Zapier don’t seem to have any problems with Reddit yet it goes down for literal months at a time here, wonderful.

I’m having the same issue. Creating a new app in Reddit only works temporarily. The next day it disconnects the connection.

If you try using an app like Postman to make a request to Reddit’s API (using the same Client ID and Client Secret details) can you let us know whether that still errors? 

​@SamB Yesterday around 5 am EST time 9/9 a bunch of Reddit Zaps triggered all of a sudden, seemingly a backlog of the last several weeks. I didn’t take any action the last few weeks. Is it fixed? 

​@geniuslabgear  ​@SamB  It was also working for me for a few hours yesterday, and the zap ran successfully multiple times, but seems once again to be back to the connection expiry issue?

I did some checking on this end and there doesn’t appear to have been a fix implemented. With the Zap’s that suddenly triggered, it’s possible that there was a delay on Reddit’s end that caused the webhooks to be held and then sent over to Zapier later on. 🤔 

​@NRV - I’ve added you to the bug report as well so you’ll get an email notification once it’s resolved.

I’ll keep an eye on the bug report and will post any updates as soon as I have them.
