New gmail as Basecamp to-do -- not receiving BC notification

I’ve set up a zap to add a new to-do whenever I receive a new email in my inbox. The zap assigns the to-do to me and I’ve selected “yes” for “notify assignees.” The to-do is added and assigned to me. However, I do not receive a BC notification of the new to-do. My Zapier account and BC account use the same email address. The email address that I’m forwarding from is different. I’ve tested it 3 times.

It was working properly when I used my corporate Zapier account, but then our CEO owner of the corporate account also receives a notification for all of my new email. Suboptimal. :-)

Very grateful for any suggestions.

Hi @JenniferW

Good question.

Please clarify which Baescamp app you are using.

@JenniferW

It may have to do with the Basecamp account that is connected to Zapier: https://zapier.com/app/connections

The “me” would be whomever’s Basecamp account is connected to Zapier.

I don’t really understand your answer. The connection works, because the to-do gets created. Where it is not working is the notification in BC. Thanks.

@JenniferW

If the Basecamp connection to Zapier is for your boss, then the assignee = me would be your boss since it’s their account.

If the Basecamp connection to Zapier is for your Basecamp account, then the assignee = me would be you since it’s your account.

@JenniferW

Can you post screenshots with how your Basecamp Zap step is configured?

I figured it out. It’s essentially because I’m assigning a task to myself. Basecamp won’t notify me about that because it thinks I must already know about the task if I’m assigning it to myself. Rats. Thanks for trying to help @Troy Tessalone

Hi @JenniferW! 👋

As Basecamp isn’t sending the notification because you’re assigning the task to yourself, you could try adding a Send Email (Gmail) action to send the email notification that way. I should note that adding an additional step would make the Zap a Multi-step Zap which isn’t available on a free plan. So if you’re on a free plan that solution may not be great for you here.

If you do give that suggestion a try and manage to get it working please let us know, we’d love to hear from you! 🙂
