Need help troubleshooting a multi-step Zap workflow

Hi everyone,

I’m Danny, a freelancer and digital solutions specialist working on automation, AI workflows, web projects, and presentation/design projects. I’ve been exploring Zapier to automate repetitive tasks and connect different tools without having to build everything from scratch.

I’m currently facing a technical issue with a Zap and would appreciate some guidance from the community.

I’m trying to set up a workflow where [describe your trigger, e.g. “a new form submission”] should automatically trigger [describe the action, e.g. “creating/updating a record in another app”].

The problem is that [clearly explain the exact issue/error].

For example:

  • The trigger is working correctly.
  • The Zap reaches [specific step] successfully.
  • However, [what goes wrong].
  • I have already tried [what you tried], but the issue still occurs.
  • [Paste the exact error message here, if applicable.]

What I’m trying to achieve?

The ideal workflow would be:

Trigger → Step 1 → Step 2 → Step 3 → Final Result

I need the Zap to [explain the desired final result].

Is there a recommended way to configure this in Zapier? Specifically, I’d like to know whether I should use Filters, Paths, Formatter, Webhooks, Code, or another Zapier feature to handle this correctly.

Any technical guidance or examples would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Sam,

I managed to get this working now. The issue was related to Perplexity, sorry, I forgot to mention that in my original post.

The problem was with the Perplexity API/integration rather than the trigger or the rest of the Zap.

I switched the Perplexity step from the native integration to Webhooks by Zapier and configured the API request directly with the required authentication and request body. I then mapped the response from the webhook into the following Zap step.

The workflow is now working as expected:

Trigger → Webhook request to Perplexity → Receive response → Map response → Next action

The trigger is firing correctly, the Perplexity request is completing successfully, and the returned response is now available for the following steps.

So the issue is resolved now. Thanks for prompting me to provide the actual workflow details, that helped me narrow down where the problem was.

If you can share screenshots of the setup and any errors you’re getting that would help give us more context.
