MS Teams Notification and Alert Issue - Sending personal chat messages with Zapier

Hello Zapier Community,

I have multiple Zapier notifications set up where I’m sending a chat messages to myself through MS Teams. I don’t know if this is an issue with MS or Zapier but I wanted to see if anyone else in the community faced similar issues.

Whenever I have this set up in Zapier, the automated message is sent and shows up through the Zapier chat box - which I integrated into MS Teams. This issue is I don’t receive a notification alert (sound, banner, or ping) in MS Teams. I have checked and rechecked the notification and alert settings in MS and everything works but whenever a zap is sent, nothing. Is there something I’m missing or is this a known issue with MS Teams or Zapier?

Appreciate any insight and help. Thank you in advance!

Sincerely,

Frank

Hi Frank, this is a common behavior with MS Teams when messages come from bots or automated integrations like Zapier. Teams often treats these messages as system/bot messages, which don’t trigger banner or sound notifications by default. A few workarounds:

Use “@mention” in the Zap – tagging your own account can trigger notifications.

Check Zapier’s Teams integration settings – ensure it’s sending as a user rather than a bot, if possible.

Consider an alternative channel – like email or mobile push notifications via Zapier, if Teams notifications are critical.

This isn’t typically an MS Teams bug, more a notification limitation with automated messages.
