LEAP (Legal) Integration Troubleshooting

We use Leap for storing our client matters and were looking into some of the Automation capabilities through Zapier integration, but have run into a few roadblocks. It would be great to get some support on the issues below, so that we can make the most of the integration.

On Zapier, there are a few issues when using the create and search functions, limiting Zapier integrations to very basic / limited functionality.

 

Create Matter

  • When a matter is created, the file reference number is not provided as an output, instead ‘a matter ID’ is given. This would be useful if you could lookup matters with the ID, as you could add a search step next, but there is not even an ID field in the search matter function.
    • This is inconsistent with the Search Matter function, which returns a 5 digit number and case handler initials (cont. in Search matter)
    • This makes it very difficult to proceed with other automations like sending emails etc, as there is no universal reference to attach to the correspondence.
    • Therefore, our priority request is to standardise the matter number field across the Leap (Legal) outputs and inputs to the ref number

 

  • When a matter is created, there are no input fields for these particular matter details:
    1. No Option to select Fee type (no option for time recorded / fixed – instead just defaults to fixed)
    2. No Option to select matter template type (Cannot use the predetermined templates already available in LEAP, and it would be good to select the appropriate matter type, so that the defaults for the Letter Headings etc are updated accordingly)

 

Search Matter

  • There is no field for matter ID in the search function, so you can’t use this function to extract the matter number from a ‘matter ID’ lookup
    • Create matter output: matter id ≠ Search matter input: matter number
    • There is a field for matter number, but this is useless when after creating a matter, you only have the ‘ID’, a number which is not used anywhere else
  • The only working field is the ‘Name’ field, which only searches the last name of a client (and so should be labelled Last name).
    • This means that often output is a list of multiple file numbers that share a last name without returning the first name of that client.
    • As the file numbers are not grouped with the appropriate first name and last name combination, so you just have multiple file numbers with the same last name, but no means of differentiation.

Search Cards

  • If you search a last name, you can pull multiple client full names for clients with that last name, but again, you do not get the associated active or closed matter reference numbers / IDs.

Create Card

  • There are no input fields for Client’s Doctor and Hospital details

 

Customised API Requests

We would also like to automate some tasks outside of what is currently available on Zapier, and wanted to know if it is possible to create custom automations such as saving a document to a particular matter, or extracting a client’s recent correspondence, read documents, GP details / employer details. LEAP already stores so much great information, it is unfortunate that the tools on Zapier cannot really access and utilise this database.

Most Zap app integrations are created and managed by the app developer (not Zapier) using the Zapier Developer Platform.

 

Try reaching out to Leap (LEGAL) Support for help/feedback with their app, Zap App integration, and API.
