Please can anyone help?

I am experiencing a difficulty in selecting my google drive when configuring a google docs “create doc from template” trigger. I can see the drive, but it does not select when I click on it. I have used different web browsers still not working. My google account is properly connected to Zapier with every permission enabled.

Furthermore, upon testing I am getting an error which I have been unable to fix and I truly need assistance.

Attached are screenshots showing where I am having this bottleneck.

Hey @Melchiz,

Try deleting the connection and reconnecting it again to see if it fixes your issue. You can do that from here- https://zapier.com/app/assets/connections. Hope it helps!

Hello @Sparsh from Automation Jinn Thanks for your response.

I have actually done that, but it didn’t work so I went further to disconnect and use another google account, but the issue persist.

Hey @Melchiz,

If you think it’s a bug, you can contact the Zapier support here- https://zapier.com/app/get-help.

Yeah, I’ve sent them a support ticket and awaiting their response.

Just dropped it here in case someone has experienced similar issue

Hey!

Based on the error, it looks like there is a variable field in the document template which needs to be populated.

Hello Ethan,

I really can’t tell why exactly it’s saying that error because the COL$A is actually displayed both on the sheet and also rendered on the configuration as displayed in the screenshots attached now

Do you have any variables in the template?

What you’ve underlined is just the Title.

Yeah, there is data in the template

Hey @Melchiz 👋 Not sure if you’ve already got this sorted but wanted jump in here to offer some help.

For why it’s not letting you select the Google Drive, I think that’s just a UI glitch since you’ve only got your personal drive to select from. It defaults to your personal drive, which appears to be the case since you’ve been able to select a folder and template, despite not showing the drive as selected.

With that "Must specify at least one request" error, it usually happens when the template that's selected doesn’t have any placeholders set up. Does the Google Docs template have placeholders set with {{ curly brackets }} around them, as shown in this example (taken from this tutorial on the Zapier blog):

If you add some placeholder fields to the Google Docs template, then the Create Document from Template (Google Docs) action should then be able to load those placeholder fields in the Zap. Note: you might then need to re-select the template to get them to appear in the Zap. Once they’re loaded in, can you to map the relevant Google Sheets values to the new fields and test the Create Document from Template action again to see if then works without that error?

Let me know how it goes! 🙂

Hello SamB,

Thank you for your response. Indeed, the missing curly brackets in my doc's template were causing the error.

Error resolved and assistance duly appreciated.

Yay! 🎉 I’m so pleased to hear that adding those placeholders into the template fixed the error @Melchiz
