Improving Discord integration to handle rate limiting errors in Zapier
I’ve been regularly getting the below error message with my Discord integration, even though there is no delay before it in my Zap. I have since added a delay with an error handler after it, but that delay only gets triggered if I get this error, which I’ve been getting quite frequently.
When I look at the logs, it seems like this is an internal issue at Zapier, as Discord is rating limiting this request, even though this is the very first Discord action in my Zap:
{ "message": "You are being rate limited.", "retry_after": 0.3, "global": true }
I believe the global being true part means it’s Zapier’s bot going over 50 requests per second, which is not something I can control. Can Zapier update their Discord integration to cache the requests if they fail and retry them or something?
I believe my only workaround is to build my own Discord bot, which somewhat negates the point of the Discord Zapier integration and even if I did that, it’d increase the amount of actions this would require, which doesn’t seem right.

Hi @Alex_Gillon,
It looks like that’s an error we’ve been running into is a known bug with Discord. Our team is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. I've added your email address as another affected user. That does a few things:
Bring this to the attention of the integration developers
Help track and prioritize fixes
Allows us to notify you via email if/when this is fixed
Unfortunately, I do not have an ETA, but I’ve added you to the list of users affected by this issue so we can let you know as soon as we have any updates.
I appreciate your patience and understanding.
@ken.a Can confirm we have Zaps affected by this as well
Hi @jturner,
I have added you as another affected member of the bug. We will keep you updated via email once the bug has been fixed.
I appreciate your patience and understanding.
Having the same issue here. Please keep me in the loop. Any ETA yet?
Hi @noneofurconcern,
I have added you to the bug report. Unfortunately, we can’t provide an ETA for the bug’s fix. However, we will keep you in the loop via email once the bug has been resolved.
Thank you!
I believe we have been encountering this issue as well for a while now. Has this been fixed or is there any ETA now?
Thanks for reaching out here, @ultiworld! I’ve just checked on the status of the bug and it’s still unresolved. We can’t provide any ETA on when it will be fixed but I’ve added you to the list, so you’ll definitely receive a notification from us once a fix has been rolled out.
Really appreciate everyone’s patience in the meantime. I’ll be sure to follow up here if there’s any change on the status of the bug!
Is there any update on the issue? I am also facing random disconnects from discord.
Hi @depthofml,
We sincerely apologize but upon checking the status of the bug report is still in progress. We’re not able to provide any ETA for the resolution time, but I’ve already added you to the list of affected users. And we’ll notify you via email, once an update is available. Thank you.
Hi,
We’ve been running into this issue as well. For now I added a delay step with a random minute (between 1-7 minutes) which helps, but does not completely resolve the issue. Then I had to set the zaps to auto replay and do not disable if errors occur.
Please fix this, it would be very beneficial to users.
Alternatively, add a discord app that allows the use of a bot token instead! So that way we can use our own to prevent everyone sharing the same zapier integration causing rate limits.
Hi @marcnre,
Thank you for sharing some work around. However the ticket with this bug is still open. I’ve added you to the list of affected users so we can give you an update via email once it’s fixed.
@JammerS We’re also affected by this issue. Please let us know as soon as there is a fix available
Hi @Mark Tao,
I have added you to the open bug report. We will update you via email once the bug has been fixed.
I appreciate your patience and understanding.
I’ve encountered the issues as well.
We have this problem as well. Would love to be added to the open bug report.
Thank you
Hi @agentlayer.dev and @vertex,
I’ve added you both to the list of affected users, and we’ll notify both of you via email once an update is readily available. Thanks.
I am also having this issue.
Please add me to the affected users as well.
Hi @Community1101, and @Silverstorm,
I’ve added you both to the list of affected users, and we’ll notify both of you via email once an update is readily available. Thanks.
Is there any ETA for an update on this?
Hi @Community1101
Thanks for checking in on this. I’ve checked on the status of the bug, and it’s still unresolved at this time. Completely understand that you’d like an idea of when this might be fixed, but unfortunately we aren’t able to provide any estimates for when it will be resolved—I’m sorry, really wish I was able to give some sort of timeframe on this.
As Jammer has already added you to the list, you’ll be informed via email as soon as any updates become available, and I’ll share any updates here as well. Thanks for your patience in the meantime.
I’m also getting it.
Is the bug a Zapier bug or a Discord bug? If it's the former, then a 5-month cycle and it not being fixed seems challenging?
Hi @NeilMcRae,
I have added you as another affected member of the bug. While we can’t provide the exact ETA for the fix. We will ensure to let you know via email once it is.
Hopefully, this helps.
Experiencing the same issue as well. Frequent rate limits and broken connections to discord. This is a huge problem.
Hi @oem So sorry for the impact this is having. I totally get how disruptive this must be, and I really wish I could share a timeline for when it’ll be resolved.
I’ve added you to the list to ensure you get an email notification as soon as there’s an update. Really appreciate your patience while the team work on getting it sorted.
