How to sync customer notes from PayPal to Google Sheets via Zapier

We have a Zap from PayPal to Google Sheets but unable to populate the Google Sheet from a “Customer Note” field in PayPal. In PayPal’s “Saved links and buttons page”, the field is called:

Customer notes

Tell customers what details you need, like "Delivery Instructions."

and we added one field called “Customer Notes 1”

When I download the PayPal transactions as a CSV file this column is called “Option 2 Value”

However in Zapier I cannot find anything that corresponds to these fields. Please let me know if you know what that field might be called.

Hi @nepayments

For live Zap Runs, check the Zap Run history to see the DATA IN/OUT for each step.

If the desired data point is shown in the DATA OUT from the PayPal step, then that data point can be mapped as a variable to a Zap action step.

How to use a live Zap Run as a Zap trigger example record to configure the Zap action steps: https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/35632951078029-Use-previous-Zap-runs-as-trigger-test-records

Hello @nepayments , Yep, this is a PayPal thing, not you.

In Zapier, PayPal button “Customer Notes” usually come through as generic option fields, like Option 1 Value or Option 2 Value. They don’t show up with the same names you see in PayPal.

Run a test payment, open the PayPal trigger data, click “Show all options,” and search for “option.” The field that shows as “Option 2 Value” in the CSV is almost always the one you want.

Also make sure you’re using a trigger like “Successful Sale” or “Payment Sale Completed,” since some PayPal triggers don’t include option data

Hi there @nepayments 👋

How did you get on with the suggestions from Troy and drtanvisachar? Were you able to get the customer notes passed over to Google Sheets?

Keep us posted on how it goes! 🙂
