Apparently you can update a contact and you can define a tag. But what is the internal I D for a tag? If I could bring in sample data from an existing conversation that is already tagged then I'd be able to see the internal id for that tag, But open phone doesn't bring in Actual data.

Try adding a list of comma separated values for the Tags field.
