How to connect Join It to YouCanBookMe for validating members-only reservations

We are trying to set up a Zap that will validate membership status from Join It when someone makes a reservation using YouCanBookMe.  First step:  booking created on the page we’ve selected; second step:  validating membership with Join It.  At this point, the Zap will not publish because it says it needs an action added to the Join It step--but I can’t find an appropriate action to add.  What is the final action needed to complete the Zap?

Hi @RVCC

Make sure you’ve configured and tested the Zap action step.

Hi Troy!  I’ve attached screenshots of how we have it set up.  Can you spot anything we’ve done wrong?

Thank you!

Sara

@RVCC

The provided screenshots are screenshots of a computer/laptop screen and are tiny/fuzzy so hard to read.

GSearch results for how to take screenshots on a computer/laptop of the screen: https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+take+screenshots

@RVCC

The issue with not being able to publish the Zap seems to be related to the Zap action: Join It - Validate Membership

This Zap action is a “search” type step, so a “search” action can’t be the last step in a Zap as there needs to be a real action performed.

All the Zap step 2 is doing is validating a membership against your member database, which is simply checking an email address.

That means you need to add another Zap step as Zap step 3, to do an action.

  • e.g. if the Membership was valid = TRUE, then do X
  • e.g. if the Membership was valid = FALSE, then do Y

Also, looks like no data is returned in the DATA OUT tab after you tested the Join It Zap step, which is unusual.

You may have to reach out to Join It support for help troubleshooting their Zap app integration.

Related Join It API endpoint documentation with more info: https://docs.joinitapi.com/reference/get-membership-verification

If needed, to get the Zap turned ON, you can add this Zap action: Storage - Increment Value

It will use 0 Tasks in Zap Runs.

Hi Sam!  Thank you for the follow up.  We are still stuck on creating the third step, and have put this back into Join It tech support’s hands for follow up.  If they can solve it, I’ll post it here.  Thanks so much.

Ok so after following up with Join It and YCBM, we found that neither of those platforms support a third step.  So I set up paths to configure a gmail response:  if membership status is valid, send a confirmation email.  If membership status is false, send a “reservation denied” email.  The confirmation email works great.  Unfortunately, when I book a reservation with an email that is definitely not a valid membership, I’m still getting a confirmation email.  I tried asking CoPilot to configure Path B to send a denial email for two conditions:  if valid membership is false, or if there is no match at all by email.  Both are still sending the confirmation email.  Any advice on how to fix this?

Second update:  I asked CoPilot to build pathways A and B again, and the second try worked!

YAY! 🎉 Thanks for keeping us updated @RVCC 🤗 I’m so pleased that Copilot was able to help fix it when it rebuilt the paths again.

Seems like you’re all set for now but please do reach back out in Community if you need help with anything else.

In the meantime, happy Zapping! 😁⚡
