Google Contacts error: The app did not respond in time. It may or may not have completed successfully

Hi,

I created a workflow in Zapier where one of the steps involves creating a Google Contact. However, I'm encountering an issue with updating existing contacts, which is leading to duplicate contacts or too many contacts in the account.

How can I ensure that if a contact already exists, it gets updated, and if it doesn't exist, it gets created?

I tried using the "Search" action in Google Contacts, which is supposed to create the contact if it's not found, but it doesn't work. Instead, I receive the error:
"Failed to find a contact in Google Contacts. The app did not respond in time. It may or may not have completed successfully."

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards,
FYM

Hi @FYM

For us to have more info, post screenshots showing how your Zap steps are outlined and configured in EDIT mode with the field mappings visible.

To update an existing Contact you need to map the internal Contact ID to the Contact field.

Hi there, @FYM! 👋

It’s been a while since you posted, so I wanted to check in. Are you still seeing timeout errors when using the Find Contact action for Google Contacts?

Timeout errors can sometimes happen due to temporary delays in the API response. I just tested the Find Contact action in my own Zap and it didn’t time out—so I’m hopeful that it was just a temporary issue. 🤞

Let us know if you’re still running into trouble. Happy to help! 🙂
