GA4 "Run Report for a Property" always fails on MCP server - Google Ads works fine

Hi everyone,

GA4 "Run Report for a Property" on my MCP server fails every time with:

> "Oops! Something went wrong. Google may be having issues with their API."

The strange part: **Google Ads "Create Report" on the same MCP server works perfectly.**

**Setup:**
- Google account: Connected, GA4 Property selected
- Both "Google Analytics Admin API" and "Google Analytics Data API" enabled in Google Cloud Console

**What I've tried (all same error):**
- Reconnected Google account multiple times
- Removed and re-added the GA4 tool
- Tested with different date ranges and minimal parameters
- Manually specified Property ID
- 20+ attempts over several hours

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a known issue with GA4 on MCP servers?

I can share execution IDs via DM if a Zapier team member can check server logs.

Hi ​@XDNODE 

Even though both use the same Google account, they rely on different APIs and permission models:

  • Google Ads → Google Ads API

  • GA4 → Google Analytics Data API (runReport)

So it’s totally possible for Ads to work while GA4 consistently fails.

A few things to check:

  • Property ID format: GA4 runReport expects just the numeric ID (123456789), not properties/123456789

  • Permissions: Make sure your connected account has access to the GA4 property (at least Viewer) in Google Analytics

  • OAuth scopes: Reconnect your Google account to ensure Analytics read scopes are granted

  • Test outside MCP: Try the same request in Google Analytics Query Explorer—if it works there, the issue is likely MCP-side

  • Minimal request: Use a simple config (e.g., date + activeUsers, last 7 days) to rule out invalid combinations
