Failed to create a conversation in ChatGPT (OpenAI)

I am trying to create an automation whereby data from a Typeform is used in a prompt for ChatGPT and then the output of that prompt is emailed to a user. However, with the ChatGPT step, I keep getting: “Failed to create a conversation in ChatGPT (OpenAI)” “Unable to process request from OpenAI” as shown in the attached screenshots. Even when I take any data out of the prompt and make it a simple one-line prompt, it gives me this error. I have created an API key and have a ChatGPT Plus account through my company.

Hi, thank you both for your responses. When the ChatGPT incident resolved, it started working, so not a problem with Zapier in the end...

Looks like the ChatGPT incident Troy mentioned was since resolved. Are you still seeing this “Unable to process request from OpenAI” errors?

If you are, can you have a look into the billing overview page in your OpenAI account and confirm there’s enough API credits to carry out the test? I got a similar error the other day and it was due to me not having enough API credits in my OpenAI account. 

Keep us posted on how you get on, want to make sure this gets sorted!

Hello! I’m running into the exact same issue, using 4o and I can’t see any major outages with OpenAI. I am on a paid plan. I’ve tried all the troubleshooting steps without any luck.

If you’re encountering the error “Failed to create a conversation” when trying to use ChatGPT, here are some common reasons and troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check Your Internet Connection
    Make sure your internet connection is stable. A weak or intermittent connection can cause problems when creating a new conversation.

  2. Refresh the Page or Restart the App
    Sometimes, simply refreshing the browser tab or restarting the ChatGPT app can resolve temporary glitches.

  3. Clear Browser Cache and Cookies
    Cached data or cookies might interfere with the session. Try clearing them and then reload the page.

  4. Sign Out and Sign Back In
