Hey all,

I’ve created a Zap between Paypal & Google Sheets, the goal is to add customer data to a sheet when there’s a successful sale of a certain product, in this case a recurring membership.

I’ve done this many times in the past for one-time payments (for digital products, software, etc) with no issues in other existing Zaps.

But in this case, the Zapier filter isn’t able to "see” the transactions for the recurring product when we run test sales, etc.

For the filter rules, I’ve selected every variant of the “Item name” field, as well as the “Transaction subject” field, and obviously set the conditions to “OR”, so it only needs to find a single instance of the product name across all those fields.

It’s still not firing.

Is there a special way to do this for paypal subscription plans?

Are subscriptions not part of the “Successful Sale” trigger for Paypal?

Or is this maybe a problem on the paypal side of the equation.

Just wondering what I’m missing here…

PS. And yes the Zapier IPN url is all setup and working in paypal, I can create test transactions.

I’d recommend using Stripe instead of PayPal, many more options via the Zap app integration and overall.

Hi Troy, I would like to but for this client Paypal’s so embedded across their business, moving to Stripe would be a big disruption.

Gotta figure out Paypal on this one.

PayPal Zap app help articles don’t seem to mention info related to “subscriptions”: https://zapier.com/apps/paypal/help

 

You can try testing with the Zap turned ON to see if that fires for a PayPal subscription.

Then check the Zap Runs: https://zapier.com/app/history/

 

You can try opening a ticket with Zapier Support for possible guidance: https://zapier.com/app/get-help

 

Otherwise, you may have to explore using PayPal Webhooks for Subscriptions: https://developer.paypal.com/docs/subscriptions/webhooks/

To clarify for the Zap Runs, that should theoretically be recording all sale events in Paypal, right?

Even if the Filter says “no”?

The key thing to check is if a Zap Run fires for a subscription.

Whether it passes a Zap Filter step is a separate issue.

For sure. 

What’s weird is I’m actually not seeing any zap history. This is a pretty active Paypal account with several daily orders usually.

Something’s up with the webhook I think…
