Can't format empty cells in Google Sheets with Formatter Lookup Table

I’m using the Formatter Lookup Table to look at a column of data (Google Sheets - Get Many Sheet Rows).

Each row contains the following text, either “Full”, “Partial” or the cell is empty.

I am able to reformat “Full” and “Partial” but the empty cells are ignored.

I tried using the fallback value but it ignores this also.

Hey @RyanForsythe1979,

I think it’s a limitation. See more about it here-

If the field you use as the lookup key is blank at the time the Zap runs, the lookup table will not return any matches. In that case, the Zap run will send no value, as the fallback value is only used when there are existing values but no matches.

I think a workaround could be replacing empty fields with a placeholder. You can also do it with a Formula in Google Sheets. Hope it helps!

Hi @Sparsh from Automation Jinn thanks for you reply.

That’s rather disappointing and frustrating. Surely blank cells are a common enough occurrence that there should be some way to target them?

Hey @RyanForsythe1979,

I think you can try the workaround that I mentioned-

For any feature request or feedback you can contact the Zapier support here- https://zapier.com/app/get-help. Hope it helps!

@Sparsh from Automation Jinn

None of the Formatter options can target empty cells.

The Google Sheet updates for every run of the Zap so that won’t work either.

I’ll have to go back to the source of the data and ask them to enter a placeholder for empty cells.

Thanks anyway.

Hey @RyanForsythe1979,

I told you to put placeholder through Google Sheets Formula field rather than the Formatter in Zapier. Hope it helps!
