Basecamp "Add Person to a Project" will not add an existing user or create users, what am I doing wrong?

As the title suggests, I cannot get this action to work. The action event description says it can add a person or create a person and this is the only action that creates people in basecamp that I see. I have tried adding an existing person by just selecting someone from the person field and leaving the Name/Email Address/Title/Company Name fields empty and vice versa. Also tried with all 5 fields filled out and with mapping the Person ID with an earlier “Find Person” step . The only thing I’m mapping here from another step is the Project ID. Since the “Find Person” option doesn’t create a person if none are found, I don’t think there is a need for that step since this zap is going to be primarily creating new users in Basecamp projects. Anyone have this action event type working?

Hi @MCZap

For us to have more info, post screenshots showing the DATA IN/OUT after testing the Zap step so we can see the data points sent as part of the request and the data points included in the response.

With Person ID from previous “find person” step.
Person selected from the drop down, static value
Filled out values for new person, left person field empty

Hey @MCZap,

Try using a real valid email instead of a test one to see if it can fixes your issue. If you think it’s a bug you can contact the Zapier support here- https://zapier.com/app/get-help

If it’s important for you, you can use Webhooks in Zapier to query the basecamp API directly. Here is a helpful article about it- https://zapier.com/app/get-help. Hope it helps!
