Access Forbidden when linking Sendgrid app

Hello folks,

I have been using sendgrid with zaper since many years. Today I went to build a new zap, but it asked me to reconnect as the connection had expired. I tried to do that, but got an “access forbidden error”. I then tried with different api keys, and giving more permissions.

With an api key with full permissions, it connected. I then started to remove permissions that zapier obviously doesn’t need, but I got the error again. I then gave those permissions back but… I still kept getting the error (Even after waiting for a while for permissions to propagate).

The api key that was previously in use only had the “email send” permission, so I cannot figure out if the issue is indeed with permissions (and exactly what permissions are needed) or is a different one.

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Hi there @cippa,

I did some digging into this, and it seems like the issue you’re encountering is a known bug with SendGrid. I have added you to the open bug report. That does a few things:

  • Bring this to the attention of the integration developers
  • Help track affected users in the bug report
  • Allows us to notify you via email once this bug has been fixed

While I don't have an ETA on when this bug might be fixed, we will notify you via email if it is!

I appreciate your patience and understanding.

Review the Zap History in Zapier to see detailed error messages. This can provide clues about what’s causing the "Access Forbidden" error.

Hi Pranayshinde, thanks for your suggestion. However, there are no errors on the zaps, the error only takes place when reconnecting to the sendgrid account. It would be no issue if it werent I cannot save a new zap until it is fixed

Hi @cippa,

Welcome to the Community.

To troubleshoot connecting SendGrid to Zapier, ensure your username, password, or API key is correct and has the necessary permissions. Clear your browser cache, try a different browser or incognito mode, and check SendGrid's status for potential outages. If issues persist, provide details about the error to help identify a solution. Send us a screenshot of your Zap in edit mode or capturing the error message. Obscure any sensitive information for security purposes.

I hope this helps you resolve your issue. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you. I have cleared cache and used incognito mode, the error happened again. I then tried with Chrome, same error again. Then I just came out of the zap and back in, and strangely it was no longer requesting me to reconnect the app, so now it works but I have no idea how it fixed itself. Also, the api key has always worked irrespective of the below, as the zaps work regularly.

Here is the sequence of steps I had done:

As a temporary fix, I’ve found that changing the API key permissions to “full access” in SendGrid resolves this issue for me. It should be set to restricted access only with only “Send Mail” for my purposes, but that seems to break the connection. It’s not ideal security practices though
