Question

How to retrieve Subitem names from Monday.com?

Hey guys. Im using the “Get Subitem Values” step with Monday.com, and am having an issue where the actual subitem name doesn’t get reported in the data out. See below for example board I’m pulling data from:|

Monday.com Board

Then I’m attempting to get the values in the “Subitem” column with this setup:

But Zapier is only getting the info from all other columns except the subitem name column.

Does anyone have any insight as to why this is happening? Im new to the software so let me know what I’m missing here.

Did this topic help you find an answer to your question?

Hi @PSD

The Monday API is a bit unconventional.

Sometimes a custom API request is needed to get the desired data in the desired format.

Zap action: Monday - API Request

Hey @Troy Tessalone,

I found my problem today with the help of someone much more experienced with Monday than me. I’ll post my solution here for anyone that finds this post in the future.

Monday boards, on the backend, are actually two seperate boards - the main board with items and another board with subitems. You have to choose the subitems board if you want to use the subitem names as variables in the rest of your zap.

Select “Subitems of ...” Main board

Hi @PSD,

I'm glad you found a solution, and thanks for sharing. On Monday.com, main items and subitems are separate entities, so selecting the correct subitems board is essential when setting up a Zap with subitems. Your insight will help others working with Monday.com in Zapier. Feel free to share more experiences or ask questions. We're here to help.
