Question

Monday.com Subtask assignment failing to trigger with second Zap

Hi there!

I’m trying to achieve the following in Monday.com with Zapier:

  1. If a new item is created on Main Board, and Column B is set to ‘Email’;
  2. Create a subtask
  3. Assign subtask to Person X, Y, or Z, based on X, Y or Z criteria.

So far, steps 1 to 2 are working, and I’ve not been able to automate Step 3. I’ve tried to do this through a lookup of the sub-task within the original zap, but kept hitting a wall with finding the parent item and subtask ID after the subtask is created.

So instead, I’ve gone ahead and created a second Zap, which triggers on “New item in board” with the Board set to “Subitems of Main Board”. I can see in the testing data for the Zap that it should see the new subitems come in, but when I turn my Zap on, there’s no Zap history and the Zap does not trigger.

Any idea what I’m doing wrong here?

Hi @PaulS

Good question.

Have you tried using Monday Automations for this logic?

Otherwise, we would need to see detailed screenshots with how your Zap steps are configured to have full context.

@Troy Tessalone Yes, but Monday Automations do not support:

  • The paths that I need to fire the initial step
  • The ability to trigger of a subtask creation
  • The ability to assign a subtask based on conditions

@PaulS

Can you post detailed screenshots with how your Zap steps are configured to have full context?
