Question

Trouble with GA4 Custom Event trigger in Zap

enrico.bisello

we are writing a custom event to GA4 via the google API

We can see the event and the parameters in GA4

The GA4 ZAP when using an event as a trigger can see the test data.

Problem is that it the zap never seems to trigger when a new custom event occurs

Any ideas appreciated

Regards and thanks

Hi @enrico.bisello! 👋

I’m so sorry to hear the Zap isn’t triggering for new custom events. I took a look but couldn’t see any open bug reports for this behaviour. But it might just be that you’re the first to come across this.

Can I just double-check, as you mentioned that custom events aren’t triggering the Zap. Are the custom events, custom conversion events? And is it able to to trigger for standard conversion events at all? I’m just wondering if it might be there might be a difference in the types of events that will trigger the Zap. Do you think that could be the case here?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Sam

Thank you for your reply.

In response

Are the custom events, custom conversion events?

“Yes they are “

trigger for standard conversion events

“I will test this and let you know”

Regards

Hi

I went back to basics and set GA4 page view as a conversion (the most active)

It has been running for 3 days and not one trigger has occurred

it is a simple zap, GA4 trigger then send email

There is Nothing in the History, yet the test data was retrieved

Any thoughts on how to investigate further

Thanks

Hi @enrico.bisello,

Thanks for letting us know!

Sometimes, reconnecting your Google Analytics 4 account can help sort out any triggering issues with the Zap. If you haven't tried that yet, could you please give it a go? You can reconnect your Google Analytics 4 account right here: https://zapier.com/app/connections/google-analytics-4

Once you've done that, give your Zap another try. And just a friendly reminder - please make sure you've selected the correct account in the "Account" field and the right property in the "Property" field in your Google Analytics 4 trigger.

Please give that a try, and keep us posted! 😊

Hi Ken,

3 days ago, I set it up all fresh from scratch including the connection.

I did see fresh test data just not a trigger

Happy to share the zap for investigation etc etc

Regards

Hi @enrico.bisello,

Thanks for the additional details!

It seems like you might be encountering a bug. Unfortunately, we don't have the necessary tools to delve deeper into the Zap on our end. However, our dedicated Support team does! I recommend reaching out to them by opening a ticket. They'll be able to investigate the Zap and its logs more thoroughly to identify the root cause of the issue.

You can reach our Support team here: https://zapier.com/app/get-help

Hopefully, this helps! 😊
