Microsoft Outlook error: Unable to retrieve the list of emails, the request user "inbox" is invalid

caseyaroyer

I’m trying to set up a new Zap that will be triggered by a new email being received in my inbox in Outlook. When I test the trigger, it returns the message “No email found.”

Things I’ve tried:

  • Leaving the “shared inbox” field under Trigger blank → “no email found.”
  • Entering my email address in the “shared inbox” field → “no email found.”
  • Entering the word “Inbox” in the “shared inbox” field → “unable to pull emails...error code: error while retrieving: unable to retrieve the list of emails: the requested user “inbox” is invalid.

Please help. I feel like setting up a Zap with a new email as a trigger should be so simple. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

Hi @caseyaroyer

Good question.

A possible workaround is to create an Outlook rule to forward the email to another app to do email parsing.

  • Gmail
  • Mailparser

So there’s no way to make this work within Outlook?

@caseyaroyer

You may need to check your Outlook settings/permissions.

I’ve had clients encounter a similar issue.

@Troy Tessalone, thank you for your response. Any suggestions of where to look in Outlook for these settings/permissions?

@Troy Tessalone , that link did not address the issue I’m having. Any other suggestions?

@caseyaroyer

Setup an Outlook Rules to forward emails to Gmail, then use Gmail as the Zap trigger.
