Monday.com updates via Excel Spreadsheet using Zapier

Hello all, I am attempting to use Zapier to update Monday.com subitems when the related info is updated on an attached excel spreadsheet. My first question is, do I need to set up a separate Zap for each row (each row on the spreadsheet represents an item in Monday) or do I just need to set it up using one example row and it will know to apply the Zap to all rows?

Second question is for anyone who has successfully set up a Zap to update Monday.com subitems. I currently have my subitems listed out as columns on my excel spreadsheet with the parent item name as the first column. Does anyone know whether this is the correct way to format the sheet? Has anyone had success in getting their subitems updating via a Zap?

Hi @chbaker,

Welcome to the Community.
You don't need a separate Zap for each row. One Zap will trigger for every new or updated row in Excel. Your sheet format should work fine with the parent item in the first column and subitems in subsequent columns. Ensure your Zap correctly maps subitems to Monday.com, and check the field mapping if issues arise.
If you're still having trouble, please don't hesitate to provide more details about the issues you're facing, and I'd be more than happy to assist you further.

Thank you @JammerS! I think I will set up a small test environment to work out the kinks. I will let you know if I encounter any issues!

Ok, looks like I am still stuck. I created a small test environment to see if I can get this to work before tackling what I actually need.

This is a snip from my test spreadsheet:

This is the error I am receiving when running the test. The AI help here says something about maybe needing to remove JSON language. Any help or ideas are appreciated!

Hi @chbaker,

You receive a 200 status code when creating subitems on Monday.com, but no subitem is created. To troubleshoot, check that your spreadsheet fields are correctly mapped, the data format matches Monday.com's requirements, and JSON formatting is handled correctly. Also, ensure your Zapier account has the necessary permissions. If the issue persists, providing more details about your Zap setup and error messages could help pinpoint the problem.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you need further assistance. We're here to help!

How do I verify that the JSON formatting is being handled correctly? And how do I update it if not?

I was able to run a successful test setting things up with static selections but when I try the same Zap using dynamic selections (for the Item name), I am not given any options to dynamically choose a subitem. Should I be doing something with the ‘Content Hash’ field? Is there another way to dynamically select a subitem?

Hi @chbaker,

To dynamically select a subitem in your Zap based on the item name, you must first use a "Find" or "Search" step to pull in the correct subitem. The 'Content Hash' field isn't helpful, as it's meant for data verification. Once the correct subitem is found, you can use its output in later steps to complete the automation.
