How can I convert an email attachment to HTML for Parser by Zapier?

I am trying to get Zapier to send my supplier emails that have tracking details over to Parser by Zapier, and then read the tracking data and update our Shopify order tracking details.

This is working for many of my suppliers, however one of them provides me with an email and the tracking details are within an attachment, not in the body of the email.

Zapier AI tells me I should be able to use Formatter by Zapier to convert the attachment to html, which then Parser should be able to read.  However it’s not working.

Does anyone know if formatter can really do this?  And if so, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Leearna, welcome to the Community! 🎉

Hmm, sounds like the AI got a bit confused on that—there’s definitely no convert PDF to HTML action available for Formatter.

Perhaps you could use an app like ChatGPT to read the file and parse the details? It has an Upload File action which you could use to upload the file, and a Conversation with Assistant action that you could get to read the file and output the information from it. This sort of approach is detailed in the best answer on this topic:

One thing to note is that you might also want to update your Zap to use Gmail’s New Attachment trigger instead. Suggesting that as in cases where there are multiple attachments (sometimes logos added to people’s email signature will be deemed as attachments too!) then they’ll all be zipped together. The New Attachment trigger will trigger individually for each file that’s added though and you can use a filter to ensure that the Zap only continues for PDF files like so:

Hope that helps. If you run into any issues on that or have any further questions at all just let us know! 🙂
