How can I update Smartsheet when Google Sheets gets updated using Zapier?

Forum|alt.badge.img

Hey Zapers. I’m hoping one of you geniuses can help with a zap. I’d like the zap to update a Smartsheet every time a Google Sheets gets updated. I added a column to the Google Sheet with the Smartsheet row ID but not sure where to go from here.

Hi there @chanse,

It looks like you’re running into a known bug with the Smartsheet integration. Our team is aware of the issue and we're working with Smartsheet on a fix. I've added your email address as another affected user. That does a few things:

  • Bring this to the attention of the integration developers
  • Help track and prioritize fixes
  • Allows us to notify you via email if/when this is fixed

Unfortunately, I do not have an ETA, but I’ve added you to the list of users affected by this issue so we can let you know as soon as we have any updates.

In the meantime, you can stay in the loop/follow along with updates on the main thread here:

Hopefully, this helps.

For anyone that comes across this and wants to be added please reach out on the main topic for this issue here and we’ll get you added to the bug report.

Hi @chanse

For us to have more info, post screenshots with how your Zap steps are outlined and configured in EDIT mode.

Here you go. I am the owner of the Asset Data Smartsheet so I’m not sure why there are no options available.

@chanse

Make sure to test your Zap step 1 in the ‘Test’ section.

Then you can map the column with the Smartsheet Row ID to the Row ID field in Step 2 using the ‘Custom’ option, which is accessed via the [...] button.

Ok. Completed test on step 1 successfully and configured step 2 using the custom option but the test is failing.

@chanse

Help links for using Smartsheet in Zaps: https://zapier.com/apps/smartsheet/help

Error indicates there was no data to use to update the Smartsheet Row.

There should be other fields shown for you to map other data points from GSheets to Smartsheets to update.

A possible workaround is to select a static Row ID to then see if that causes other fields to appear for you to use, then once mapped with data, switch the Row ID back to have a dynamic variable mapped.

"There was no data available to create or update a row in Smartsheet. Either the Trigger did not provide any data, or none of the Action fields were mapped to Trigger fields. Please check your configuration."

The "Add Row to Spreadsheet" and "New Row Update" Actions require that at least one field be filled out in the Zap.
If you encountered this error while using one of these Actions, it is possible that during the configuration of the Zap none of the Action fields were mapped (by selecting a dropdown option) or manually filled with values.
Alternatively, the Trigger may not have provided any data.

Not all columns from the sheet are displayed during configuration.

Columns that are locked based on your sharing permission level won't be displayed.

When I select the Static Row ID option, I get an error that No options are available.

We are on the Smartsheet Business plan so we should be good there.

From one of the recent related Zapier Community topics:

I did some digging into this, and it seems like you’re running into a known bug where the “New Row Update” action can't find any rows to assign a row ID to update.

Our team is aware of the issue and we're working with Smartsheet on a fix.
