How to use Hubspot Contact Owners as a filter in Zaps

celine slang

Hi there,

After new leads complete a Hubspot form, I’d like to send out text messages from members A, B, or C of my Sales team based on the contact owner field in Hubspot. Right now I have a round robin workflow in Hubspot that will assign A, B, or C as the contact owner for new contacts.

Once the contact owner has been set in Hubspot, I’d like Zapier to initiate a text message sent from A, B, or C, based on the contact owner field in Hubspot.

I have three Zaps set up for each sales person (A, B, and C), but I’m not sure if my combo of Action “Get Owner by Email in Hubspot” + Filter Only Continue if would actually filter down to the corresponding sales person A, B, or C based on the tests Zapier is running.

Greatly appreciate any help on this!

Hi @celine slang

Good question.

First, make sure to obscure personal contact info in screenshots.

Second, can you post screenshots with how your Zap steps are configured so we have full context?

Try these Zap steps:

  1. Trigger: HubSpot - New Form Submission
  2. Action: HubSpot - Find Contact
    1. Search by Email or a unique data point
    2. Set Contact Owner as an additional property to retrieve
      1. That will return the Owner ID
  3. Action: HubSpot - Get Owner by ID
  4. Action: Filter/Paths
    1. NOTE: Paths require a Pro+ paid plan
  5. Action: ???

Hi Troy, thanks for your response! Just updated the screenshots to provide full context and hide personal info.

The original Zap was just steps 1, 2, 5, and 6. Steps 3 and 4 are the new additions where I’m trying to filter by salesperson.

Let me test out your recommended flow.

Hi Troy, I’m getting stuck on this step:

  1. Action: HubSpot - Find Contact
    1. Search by Email or a unique data point
    2. Search property value (required)
    3. Set Contact Owner as an additional property to retrieve

Seems like Zapier is forcing me to look up a specific lead, but I want the lead look up to be dynamic.

@celine slang

You can map a dynamic variable (email) from step 1 using the ‘custom’ option. (assuming you are collecting email on the form)
