Hi there,

I am new to Zapier and I just set up the “New Mention: Triggers when a username or highlight word is mentioned in a public #channel” zap to create a new record in Airtable.

I understood this zap will only run on public channels, not private ones. The current zap is only 2 steps.

The highlighted word is “kudos.

While it is triggering, it is also triggering on private channels, which I do not want. See screenshot below of where it ran the zap:

As you can see, it was sent to Airtable:

Anyone know how I can make this zap run only on public channels (not private channels) without adding an additional step/filter?

Screenshot below is my current Zap set-up

Thanks!

Hi @khoner01

If there is a data point returned from the Slack Zap trigger step that indicates the Channel is private, then add a Filter as Step 2: https://zapier.com/apps/filter/help

Thanks @Troy Tessalone !  I wanted to avoid adding a filter because multi-step zaps cost money and my department wanted to see what is possible on the free Zapier account.

Also, this is feedback for the Zapier team: I am overall confused about how the Zap is currently marketed. The Zap says it will work on #public channels. So I understood that to mean “public channels only.”

I feel the Zap blurb should say “will trigger on any channel” if that’s what the output truly is.
