I tried making a Zap connecting Gmail and Slack and it worked great until it told me I wasn’t authorized to connect the two. What’s an alternative to Gmail? I tried Outlook but it doesn’t give me the option to search for keywords in the email. So far I’ve only seen Gmail give me that option. Does another email service give the option of Keyword filters?

Thanks!

Hey there - What was the issue with the authorisation that’s blocking you here?

According to Zapier docs, Slack isn’t an approved Gmail app: https://zapier.com/help/doc/common-problems-gmail. It works during the tests but then when I try to turn it on I get this message:

Hi @jonathanahern

Sadly, this is a security restriction from Google API that affects everyone, not just Zapier. More details are here:

The only way around it is to have a paid Gmail account via the GSuite program:

@AndrewJDavison_Luhhu  That’s really handy to know - I’ve never encountered it before - I guess because I’ve only ever used paid G-Suite

I figured. I ended up finding a work around in case anyone else has the problem. I used an Outlook email and sent all the emails to a Slack Channel. I then used the Echobot app to find keywords and forward it to the channel I wanted.

I don’t think my original question was answered though. Is there another email service that can filter emails by keyword?

I can’t think of any other email services where you can set the trigger to filter by keyword. The only way that I can think to do this would be to use a regular trigger (eg MS Outlook - New Email) and then add a Filter step immediately after it to filter out emails that don’t meet the conditions that you need.
