Question

Request for Notion API to find database IDs in Zapier

I’m trying to build a Zap which creates a new database Item in Notion.
This database item uses a template in Notion which has a new database inside of it.

Now I am trying to get the ID of this database (which is created with the Zap) but there is no way to get it.

I see there is a Find Database option in de API of Notion, but I think this is not yet available in Zapier.

So my question for the developers: Please can this be an option? It would make my life a lot easier and my automations a lot cooler. :)

Hello  @AnoukMartens
This isn’t possible today due to a current limitation.

When Zapier creates a Notion page using a template, it can’t return the IDs of any nested databases created by that template. The Notion app in Zapier only has access to the parent page’s properties, and Notion’s Find Database API isn’t exposed in Zapier yet.

Workarounds are limited. If the nested database is always the same, you can manually copy its database ID and reuse it. If it’s newly created per page, there’s no reliable way to retrieve that ID via Zapier right now.

This would be a great feature request. I’d recommend submitting it so the team can track interest.

I’ve run into a limitation with the Notion app in Zapier and I’m hoping this can be added as a feature. I’m creating a new database item in Notion using a template, and that template contains a database inside the page. The issue is that once Zapier creates the item, there’s no way to get the ID of the database that was created inside the template, so I can’t continue the automation from there.

I noticed the Notion API has a Find Database option, but it doesn’t seem available in Zapier yet. Please can you add a Find Database action or any way for Zapier to return the IDs of databases created inside templates? This would make a huge difference for more advanced workflows and would unlock a lot of cooler automations.
