Question

Possible to know new slack channel is private or public?

I built a Zap for new slack channel notification using New Channel Trigger Event.

I’d like to improve the Zap which notifies only when the new channel is public.

But, I think New Channel Trigger Event doesn’t provide the information about the public status of the channel.

Is there a way to know the public/private status of a slack channel?

Hi @Psychic VR Lab

Good question.

A possible workaround is to use this Zap action: Slack - Set Channel Topic

That will return the “is_private” parameter that indicates true/false.

@Psychic VR Lab just wanted to check in! Were you able to give Troy’s work around a try?
