I am using Fastfield Forms to send Form submissions to Monday.

Unfortunately I have not been able to find a way to connect boards with multiple items. I tried following some instructions found on monday.com but I havent managed to get it to work:

https://support.monday.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014205860-Zapier-JSON-Formatting-Examples

Example of what I am trying to achieve:

  1. User submits a form for a Daily Vehicle Inspection within Fastfield. This form allows for multiple passengers to be travelling inside the vehicle:

  1. Form is send to a “Vehicles” Board inside Monday. This board has a column called “Todays Passengers” that connects to “Employees” Board (I have changed it to a text column at the moment until I can get it fixed).:
  2. In Zapier i tried sending the connect boards item IDs but Zapier was returning with errors. It works if I send only one ID (Ex. “Employee 1 ID”):

Any suggestions on how to format it correctly or how to make it work? Any help would be greatly appreciated since it is currently limiting a lot of my automations inside Monday.

Hi @Sven Meyer

Good question.

Here’s the Monday API about the Connected Boards column type:

Hey Troy,

Thank you for your quick response. Unfortunately I lack any coding skills or the knowledge on how to modify the API.
I was hoping for a simplier solution within Zapier since it is a great alternative for us non coders to still integrate different platforms together. Sending strings works without a problem, same with sending IDs, Monday detects the item ID for a single value and creates the connection but it doesnt work with multiple IDs.

How do I change the values into JSON format inside Zapier when pushing values to Monday?

@Sven Meyer

Another thing to be aware of is that you have 4 mapped variables, but only 1 has data, so that may be contributing to the issue.

So if you are going to have a dynamic number of variables with values, then you still may have to use a Code step to dynamically prep the data in order to remove variables that have “No data” before mapping to that field

@Troy Tessalone

I have tried with two IDs who had data and same error. Do I have to use a code step to prep the data into JSON format too?

@Sven Meyer

If you will have a variable # of employee IDs mapped (1-4), then most likely in order to properly prep the data.

@Sven Meyer

From my testing, I wasn’t able to get multiple items linked either and I tried many combinations.

This is what the underlying JSON data structure looks like.

With that said, it’s likely the Monday API would have to be used as there may be a limitations with the Monday Zap app integration for this type of field. (could be a bug)

App APIs can be used in Zaps with the Webhooks app as an action step: https://zapier.com/apps/webhook/integrations

You can try opening a ticket with Zapier Support to see if they can provide any guidance: https://zapier.com/app/get-help
