I’m relatively new to Zapier and love it so far. I’m also using Segment.com. Segment has sooo soo many good and useful tracking information and I would love to be able to integrate that.

Has anyone actually been able to integrate the two in a meaningful way. The only way described is to use Raw Data or Hooks, but nothing meaningful.

I also love both of these tools. The way I think about it is that with Zapier you can start setting up certain automation and if they really prevail, you can also integrate them into segment replacing the Zapier ones.

A good example is the following:

You created a new landing page and now want a user to be created in Zendesk for every sign up on that landing page. For the first few weeks, you should look if that landing page is successful and should not see it as an integral part of your infrastructure, thus connect it via Zapier. If, however, the landing page turns out to be a huge success, you should connect it via segment and make sure it becomes part of your infrastructure.

Furthermore, I think the Raw Data Hooks make sense when you onboard a new tool in your setup and it cannot be integrated into Segment. Then, you can just do it via Zapier and send all the data from your infrastructure to that new tool.

Hope that helps :)

FYI: Segment is listed as an UPCOMING app which once integrated with Zapier should make it more user-friendly to integrate: https://zapier.com/apps/segment/integrations

Hey @jmacman

I would recommend that you look into their HTTP API which allows you to send events and user data directly to segment with relative ease:

https://segment.com/docs/connections/sources/catalog/libraries/server/http-api/

The Segment HTTP Tracking API lets you record analytics data from any website or application. The requests hit their servers, and they route your data to any destination you want!

You can make use of this with webhooks in Zapier: https://zapier.com/page/webhooks/

Would be so nice to see someone online or YouTub do a video on how to do this. I’ve tried it, but no success.

Yeah, that’s been listed there for a while now with no dates or timeframes. I almost think that is more marketing than truth.

In the meantime - I’d recommend you reach out to a Zapier expert here, who might be able to help you set thi sup with Webhooks :)
