How to setup AWS RDS connections with dedicated readers and writer database?

We’re looking to use Zapier to connect our service to Hubspot.  Looking in the available connections for an RDS, I see MySQL as an option.  This should work fine for Amazon RDS; however, we have an RDS cluster with two dedicated readers and one writer.  How can we connect to Zapier?
Will Zapier work okay with two MySQL connections for each kind of activity?

Hi @a2tech

Check out the available help articles for each app.

MySQL: https://zapier.com/apps/mysql/help

Amazon RDS: https://zapier.com/apps/amazon-rds/help

I looked at the amazon-rds help, says the connection is made when creating an RDS zap.  The only available RDS zap I see is for database creation.  I looked at the MySQL help as well.  I cannot find any information regarding connections to a cluster with dedicated readers / writers and how Zapier will interact with them.

May be best to open a ticket with Zapier Support: https://zapier.com/app/get-help

Hi there @a2tech! I can see you were able to chat with my teammate Andy in support which is perfect! I wanted to post their response here just in case it’s useful to other users. 🙂

Based on this: “I want to connect to one database, but the database has two endpoints. One is for reader instances, and the other, for a writer instance” Andy recommended:

It sounds like you will need two connections in Zapier for the two endpoints. If wanting to use the MySQL Zapier integration, I would test this to make sure things work as expected.

I would recommend building a Zap using the MySQL > New Row trigger step as step 1 in the Zap. During setup, you'll get the chance to connect to your database. I'd recommend connecting to your reader endpoint for this step. To connect to your database, you'll need the following credentials outlined here:
https://zapier.com/help/doc/how-get-started-mysql#setting-up-the-mysql-integration

If this is successful, I'd test the step, and then try using the "writer" endpoint when setting up a Zap using the Create Row or Update row steps, which would require "write" permissions.
