A new client is entered in a google form, and in one zap, a template google sheet is copied and renamed with the client name, then populated.

Later in the case, I need to update the client’s worksheet and use the update to trigger a document to be drafted using google doc.  In order to do this, I have to be able to identify the newly made client worksheet.  Unfortunately, because the worksheet is created in a different app, I cannot find it.

Is there a way to pull the worksheet ID from the prior app? I have tried finding a way, I have also pasted the ID to another sheet thinking of a way to find and use it.  I can’t seem to find the solution.

Hi @mbuentello

Help us have more info by outline a specific example for us using real data for us to trace the data flow.

Include screenshots or record and share a Loom.com video to give that context.

Hey @mbuentello 👋

Just came across this and spotted you reached out to our Support team about this as well. Looks like they replied with a suggestion but didn’t get a reply back, so I’m not sure if you saw it.

Sharing their suggestion here in case it’s helpful to you or anyone else that’s wanting to build something similar:

Here’s how you could set it up:

  1. Zap 1 (Form submission to sheet creation):

At the end of this Zap, add a Webhook by Zapier – POST step to send the newly created spreadsheet ID (and any other needed info) to a specific webhook URL.

  2. Zap 2 (Triggered by the sheet ID):

Set this up with a Webhook by Zapier – Catch Hook trigger to receive the spreadsheet ID from Zap 1 and proceed with whatever logic you’d like to run once the sheet is created.

That said, if it’s feasible to build this into a single streamlined process, you could explore Paths by Zapier instead. This lets you branch workflows based on different criteria, keeping everything within a single Zap and potentially simplifying your setup:

If that approach worked for you please or you need help with this do let us know, want to make sure you’re all set! 🙂
