How to extract a file from a Slack message and send it via Zapier

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to create a Zap that will extract a file (e.g., a PDF) attached to a message in a Slack channel and send it to another destination (e.g., Google Drive, email, etc.). I can capture the message itself using Zapier, but I'm having trouble retrieving the attached file.

Has anyone set up a similar workflow or know how to handle file attachments from Slack in Zapier?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi @Jlaczynski 👋

Not sure what trigger you’re using but Slack’s New File trigger that would give you access to the file object in it’s File field (will display as ‘Exists but not shown’).

For example:
f05f707ea96f6b08b7b3e2c05b7c8c1c.png

If you select that field in the Google Drive or email actions of your Zap that should pass the file along. Check out our Send files in Zaps guide to learn more about working with files in Zaps.

Would that work for your needs here or are you using a different Slack trigger?
