How to delete cell information in Excel for better data transfer from monday.com

Hi, i need to erase cells in excel so information can be correctly transferred from monday.com to the Excel spreadsheet.

The objective is to erase the row, but if I could delete the information, it would already be enough.

I saw other posts regarding this functionality, but they are from years ago. Please inform me if this can be done.

Thanks for getting back to me @Diogo Larre. Sorry to hear you’re not able to use the alternative approach Troy suggested.

I did some digging and looks like we actually have an existing feature request for a “Delete Row” type of action to be added to the Microsoft Excel app, which was discussed previously over here:

I’ve gone ahead and added your vote for that. We can’t make any promises around when it might become available, and it has been around for quite some time, but we’ll be sure to notify you if and when it does.

In the meantime, the only known workarounds would be to:

  • Move the spreadsheet over to a different app like Google Sheets or Zapier Tables for example, which support the deletion of rows/records
  • Or use the Update Row (Microsoft Excel) action that Adil suggested to clear the values in the Excel row

As we’ve already got one topic linked to that feature request, I’m going to need to close this one so folks can follow along with any updates in a single place. For anyone that comes across this post and wants to be added to the bug report please reach out on the main topic and we’ll add your vote! 🙂

Hi @Diogo Larre

Here are workaround options via Zap actions:

  • GSheets - Clear Spreadsheet Row(s)
  • GSheets - Delete Spreadsheet Row(s)

Hey @Diogo Larre, just checking in—did the Google Sheets actions Troy suggested as a workaround do the trick?

Let us know if you still need any help, want to make sure you’re all set! 🙂

Thank you for answering! Unfortunately, we’re not using Google Sheets, so we’re still trying other possibilities.

Hey! Yes, this can be done — but with a few limitations.

Zapier doesn’t support fully deleting rows in Excel, but you can update cells and overwrite them with blanks, which effectively clears the data. You’d use the “Update Row” action and set the fields to empty.

If you're using Google Sheets instead of Excel, it's a bit more flexible — including row deletion. But for Excel, clearing the content by updating works well for most use cases.

Let me know if you’d like help setting it up!
