How to avoid creating duplicate contacts in Actionstep

Hey everyone! Zapier rookie here, but I am so excited with the countless automations I can’t wait to get my hands on!!

Just got a quick questions. I’ve set up a zap to create a new contact on Actionstep everything a submission is made on cognito forms. How would I avoid duplicates from being created. I tried setting up a zap to find contacts on actionstep but I cant seem to find an option to search by email or phone number. Has anyone found a walk around this? Thanks!

Hi @Dilshan 

Try using the Actionstep Find/Create Contact option.

Can you provide screenshots of the Zap step settings available?

Thanks for your reply. I can only see those two options. I would have thought there would be an option to find a contact based on their email?

You can try opening a ticket with Zapier Support to see if they have any guidance: https://zapier.com/app/get-help

You may have to explore using the Actionstep API: https://actionstep.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/API/pages/12648551/Participants

App APIs can be used in Zaps with the Webhook app as an action step: https://zapier.com/apps/webhook/integrations
