Question

How do I prevent duplicate emails in Zapier when creating a new SharePoint list item?

Hi,

I have two Zaps set up:

  1. Send an email from Outlook when a NEW item is created in a SharePoint list.
  2. Send an email from Outlook when an item is UPDATED in a SharePoint list.

When I create a new item in the SharePoint list, I’m getting both emails. Does a new item also trigger as an update? I would prefer to only have email #1 when a brand-new item is added.

However, when I update the item, it only sends the update email #2 (which is correct)

New item trigger:

Update trigger:

Thank you

Hi @tktmastr

Sometimes when an item is created there are background processes in an app that do micro updates, which would then be seen by a Zap “update” trigger as an update event.

Check if there is a data point such as a time stamp that you can use in a Step 2 Filter: https://zapier.com/apps/filter/help
