Question

How can I send Airtable images to a Google Docs template?

When an AirTable record first enters a view, I’m triggering a Zap to generate a new Google Doc from a template. I have everything working by passing AirTable fields through to the {{placeholder}} text in the document.

The only thing I can’t seem to get working is an image from an attachment field. If I use “Attachment File” from AirTable I get the following error:

If I use the “Attachment URL” from AirTable then my {{image}} merge field in Google Doc just has the string of text and no image.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Hi there @kdb,

Welcome to the Community! 🎉

I did some digging into this, and it seems like the “Create Document from Template” action in Google Docs doesn’t support inline images. However, we do have an existing feature request for this exact functionality. Please let me know if you’d like to get added to that.

I'll be keeping an eye out for your response!

Hi @kdb

You can use GSlides Templates with images.

Tip: to pass images onto the template, you just need to create a text placeholder variable on your presentation template, then pass on a URL to a hosted image on your Zap template.
