Facebook "send lead event" and custom event setup in Meta event
Hi,
Recently I have setup a Zap to link CRM data to Meta ads platform by “Send Lead Event.” The Zap itself worked and we could see the data in Meta but all the data goes to “Lead” in Meta event activity page, but I want to make this event separate from “Lead”.
So I tried setting up a custom conversion in Meta and inputted the custom conversion name to Zap Event ID or Custom data fields to send as a parameter but it didnt work. it always goes to “lead”
Here is what i did.
It always counted as “lead” but I want to set up a separate event.
in Meta, I tried to setup a custom conversion, but i guess thats not how things work.
What should I do so the events would appear on Meta and we can identify them with a specific event name.

Hi @komegi,
Welcome to the Community.
To correctly set up a custom conversion, ensure the "Event Name" in your Zap's "Send Lead Event" action matches the exact name used in Meta's custom conversion setup. Verify that no filters in Meta are blocking the events and that the custom conversion tracks all events.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
thank you, @JammerS
the thing is, i dont see anything that says “Event Name” in “send lead event.” Thats another thing I was wondering why. Should I select different “action event” such as Send Other Event? I tried that one as well and it has “Event Name,” but I cannot pick the custom event I created….
there is no field that says “Event Name” in send lead event
It seems that on Meta side, setting up offline conversion changed.
I tried using dataset as described, but still its not clear how I should set things up on Zapier side….
Hi @komegi,
If you're having trouble sending lead events to Facebook's Offline Conversions using the "Send Lead Event" action in Zapier, ensure your Event Set is correctly set up in Facebook Business. If the "Event Name" field is missing, specify a custom event name using the "Send Other Event" action. Note that the current Zapier integration only supports event sets, not datasets.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hi @JammerS
So sorry for my super late response!!!! I didnt get the notification…
I tried and now I used additional data section to send as a parameter. (I tried using Send other event but when i tested it, i got an error and couldnt publish. )
on facebook side, i created custom conversion and now it it active and it said last received 3 hours ago, but it is counted as 0…..
Am i still setting things up wrong?
Hi @komegi,
Please post the screenshot of the error message and the Zap editor so we can troubleshoot further. Thank you.
Hi @JammerS
oh there is no error this time. it went through. but it is not counted as conversion although event itself seems active.
I checked facebook troubleshoot as well, but they don seem to support when it comes to the third party integration.
As there is no error, i am thinking the setup is correct, but how it is not counted as ac activity is an issue.
Let me know what else i should provide.
Hi @komegi,
If your Zap is running without errors but Facebook isn't tracking conversions correctly, check that your Facebook is firing on the correct events and that your conversion events are properly set up. Ensure the Zapier-to-Facebook connection is configured correctly, and account for possible delays in Facebook's reporting. If issues persist, reach out to Zapier's support team or Facebook for further assistance.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hi @JammerS
Apologize for the delay in response. I was investigating more.
It seems that when we send the extra information to Meta (the one I put in Additional Data), the information doesnt match with Meta’s format.
In the current Zapier field in “Send Other Event in Facebook Conversions,” i dont see any field that says “custom data.” but Meta expects us to have that field (custom_data) when we send extra info.
Is there any work around?
Hi @komegi,
Happy Holidays to you!
The issue is a mismatch between the data format Zapier sends and what Meta expects in the 'custom_data' field. Since Zapier's "Send Other Event in Facebook Conversions" doesn't have a direct field for 'custom_data,' a workaround is to use Zapier's Formatter step. You can create a properly formatted 'custom_data' field for Meta by reformatting the trigger data with the' Utilities' action.
