I’m trying to understand how the Shopify abandoned cart functionality works to trigger the Zap.  I want to have an automation that will put both abandoned carts and abandoned checkouts in Google Sheets, but I need to be able to identify them separately.

Does it trigger after the cart has been “abandoned” for a certain period of time (30 min? 1 hr?)?

If someone abandons a checkout (i.e. starts the checkout process but doesn’t finish), will that also trigger the abandoned cart zap?

Thanks for your help.

Hi @wishiknewhowtocode,

Welcome to the Community.

Shopify identifies abandoned carts when customers leave items in their cart without action for a set time and abandoned checkouts when they start checkout but don’t complete the purchase. Zapier offers separate triggers for these events, allowing you to set up distinct Zaps. Use separate sheets or columns for each type to track them in Google Sheets. Test your Zaps to ensure they align with Shopify's settings and behavior.

Thanks for your reply.

When I look at available options for Shopify, I see a pre-built one that uses “abandoned cart” as a trigger.  However, I don’t see one that uses “abandoned checkout”.

Am I just overlooking the abandoned checkout?  Or am I missing something?

Hi @wishiknewhowtocode,

The only available trigger for Shopify is “New Abandoned Cart” which will trigger whenever a cart is “abandoned” (only open carts) with line item.
