Creating a side business for AI agent setup

Greetings, I've been playing around with AI agents and started setting some up for a family and friends. I would like to possibly create a small side business where I help busy individuals and create AI agents for them.

I'm looking to see how that would work. Would I create it on my own account and then transfer it, but how would their API credentials work? Do I encourage them to create their own account and then I support them by having them add me as a collaborator? That would entail them having to pay at least $30 a month up front to be able to add me as a collaborator because of the plan features. Has anyone else tried this?

Hey @Fportelos !

Most people handle this by having the client own the accounts from the start.

The usual setup is the client creates their own accounts for whatever tools the agent uses and connects their own API keys. Then they invite you as a collaborator or temporary admin while you build and configure everything.

That way
• the billing stays in their name
• their API keys remain under their control
• you can step away later without needing to transfer anything

Building everything under your account and transferring it later usually becomes messy, especially when API keys, billing, and permissions are involved.

If the collaboration feature requires a paid plan, some builders just have the client upgrade during setup, finish the build, and then downgrade later if the platform allows it. Another option is screen share setup where you guide them through connecting their accounts while you configure the agent.

Thank you. I will try that. By any chance do you know how much one would, or should, charge for this service?

The screen sharing seems like a good idea.

@Fportelos

Pricing for this kind of work varies quite a bit.

Some charge a one time setup fee. For simple agents that might be a few hundred dollars. More complex builds with multiple integrations can go into the low thousands depending on how much time it takes.

Others charge hourly while building and configuring things. Rates commonly fall somewhere between about 50 and 150 per hour depending on experience and complexity.

A third option is a small monthly support fee after the build. That covers monitoring, tweaks, and helping the client if something breaks.

Since you are just starting out, a simple package often works well. For example a fixed price to build the agent and then an optional monthly support plan if they want ongoing help.

The screen sharing approach you mentioned is actually common for early projects. It keeps the client’s accounts and API keys under their control while you guide them through the setup.
