Hey all,

I created a zap yesterday that is based off a Jira JQL string that searches a project for new issues, and then creates an appropriately formatted card on our Trello board. It works very well, but I wanted to know if there was a way to update those created Trello cards based on a field update in the Jira issue (e.g. if the Assignee field changes to someone else).

Might be asking too much, and may have to use a 2-way sync app instead...but who knows! Thank you :)

Hi @Crrip

Good question.

There is a Zap trigger for Jira Cloud - Updated Issue, but not sure it will indicate the value that was updated which caused the Zap to fire, so you may have to test.

Bump - Any other suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hi @Crrip

You may try adding the Update Card in the Trello action step.

Would I need to add this to the existing Zap, or as a new one? :)

Hey there @Crrip,

I’m jumping in to see if I can help!

Zapier does not support two-way syncing between apps right now. Think of Zaps like one-way workflows. This help doc has some more info:

https://zapier.com/help/create/basics/does-zapier-support-two-way-syncing

Instead, Zaps have one trigger (when this thing happens) and one or more actions (then do this other thing). So it's possible to have a trigger with one app and then send data into another app, a one-way flow of data.

In order to do a two-way flow of data, you would need a separate Zap. This may accidentally create Zap loops, so I'd proceed with caution here!

Hopefully, this helps! 😊

Thank you Ken! That certainly does make some of this clearer, however I’m still trying to work out the order of things in my head 😅

Maybe this can help make things a little clearer (for me!). This is the initial Zap which creates the Trello card:

Zap #1

I’ve now gone ahead and created a second Zap to act as the “search and update”...is this along the lines of what you were referring to?:

Zap #2

I’m getting a “Failed to find a card in Trello” error on step 2. Not entirely sure why, as it’s just searching for the Jira key, unless, should the card name field match the exact ordering that it’s set to on the “Create Card In Trello”?

Step 2 - Card name.

Hi @Crrip

Can you please share a detailed screenshot of how the Zap is configured to give us enough context? (Kindly blur any personal information/detail in the Zap)
