Hi all, I’m trying to find a way to automate Birthday messages to our company slack. I have thought of creating a google calendar with the birthdays to automate on the day of. But, it has yet to successfully tag the right person in the slack message.

I have the slack message populating from the calendar discription, but this prevents from the individual being actually tagged by their username.

ANyone have ideas?

Is the google cal zap not going to work and I should use a spreadsheet as described in other responses?

Thanks for the help!

Hello! My name is Justin and I write for the Zapier blog. Nice to meet you!

I don’t see any reason why Google Calendar wouldn’t work! Have you thought of manually adding people’s Slack handles to the appointment? That would make it a lot easier to tag people. Just a suggestion, let me know if it’s not helpful and we can keep brainstorming.

Slack Reminders ought to do the trick: https://slack.com/help/articles/208423427-Set-a-reminder

Otherwise check out BirthdayBot: https://birthdaybot.io/

Hi, I am also trying to do the exact same thing.  It does not look like HiBob has a birthday integration (Seems like a gap on their part) Correct me if I am wrong.
Ideally I would also like to tag the individual, but when you have it linked to the birthday calendar in google, the event is not editable to add the users slack handle. I am trying to avoid manually making birthday events for each employee.
Any ideas?
Also I cannot use birthday bot as there is a fee attached.

I tried to do the same. Issue I faced is to make the system maintainable and not over-thinked. I don’t want anyone to have to read a whole tutorial to update a date. (especially considering people are joining, leaving, want to opt-out from this etc.)
Solution that we kept is to use a slack app doing exactly what we wanted: Billy birthday. It has a free version up to 30 users. https://billybirthday.com/

Thanks for sharing this info with the Community, @ryanslade. I’ve not used the Billy Birthday app myself but it sounds like a good alternative 😁
