My assumption to this is the conditional logic must be coming from where the zap starts, correct? So for instance, if our Zendesk has specification that they are a manager, the zap will need to say
>only continue if zendesk customer has role manager

That’s correct. If you have some field in your trigger data that you can filter against, you can add a Filter step and say Only continue if...field X contains value Y. Sounds like you have such a field in Zendesk :)
